Rules for Thee, Not for Me...


Typical of the left, we are frequently found with rules and mandates that apply to the American people, in general, but not to those who prescribe the laws. It seems as though each day there is yet another example of “rules for thee, not for me.”


When the democrat-controlled Congress passed Obamacare into law in 2010, there were of course special exemptions provided to members of Congress. They were allowed to participate in Washington D.C.’s small-business exchange, although not a small business, and Congress was exempted from the law that made it illegal for any large employer to make tax-free contributions toward its employees' exchange-plan premiums. Despite Obamacare requiring members of Congress to leave the Federal Employees' Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), and lose the $12,000 government subsidy for healthcare premiums they had been receiving annually, representatives and senators were the only federal employees allowed to remain on the federal program.


Obamacare was the solution to our healthcare crisis for the average American citizen, but was not good enough for the elites in the Washington swamp.


Another crisis, that of climate change, has been another example of the hypocrisy of those who claim to lead the charge in defense of humanity. John Kerry, President Biden’s climate envoy, has been galivanting across the globe in a private jet, burning massive amounts of fossil fuels and releasing large amounts of greenhouse gases into the already devastated atmosphere. His response when called out on this apparent double-standard, flying on a private jet to Iceland to receive a climate award, was notable for its arrogance as much as its hypocrisy, “it's the only choice for somebody like me who is traveling the world to win this battle…” The average American is supposed to drive less so as to not burn fossil fuels, cut back on heating and cooling their homes to be more environmentally-friendly, and sacrifice daily to satisfy the elites’ climate tyranny, but they, the elites, who are of course more important than the average American, should always be held to a different standard.


The left’s tyrannical climate expectations are the only option for the average American if we want to save the planet, but the leftist elites can ignore such inconveniences because they are more critical to the planet’s future.


Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats vote to expel Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments, and she calls Republicans “the enemies within the House,” yet she allows Eric Swalwell to keep his assignment on the intelligence committee despite his relationship with a Chinese spy. She institutes rules that fine members of the House who do not go through the security check upon entering the chamber, but then avoids this same check when she enters. After all peasants, the rules are for thee, not for me!


Finally, today is the beginning of the second impeachment trial against former President Trump. The charge, inciting an insurrection, in response to his speech to the protesters on January 6th, when he said, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” He finished his speech that day by telling his supporters, “…but we're going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones because the strong ones don't need any of our help, we're going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country. So let's walk down Pennsylvania Avenue…” Nothing in his speech was condoning or encouraging violence. Let’s compare that to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who incited an insurrection in which liberal protesters stormed the Supreme Court building, when he proclaimed, “I want to tell you Gorsuch, I want to tell you Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” This is a statement inciting violence and insurrection, and it put a target on the heads of particular Supreme Court Justices. Was there an outcry to impeach Senator Schumer? How about Representative Maxine Waters, who has made it her mission to harass and threaten Republicans, especially those working in the Trump administration? She instructed her supporters, “…if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.” Was that not inciteful and worthy of impeachment? Senator Cory Booker said on TV that he feels like punching President Donald Trump, and also urged his supporters to “…get up in the face of some congresspeople…” Those sound like statements inciting violence… impeachable?


Liberal lawmakers can make hateful statements, and threaten, condone, encourage, and promote violence, and openly call for insurrection, and Americans are told “context matters,” but when a conservative or Republican president calls for citizens to peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard, it is a white supremacist call for bloody revolution.


The left’s hypocrisy is matched only by its arrogance; its propensity for establishing laws and rules that apply to others but not to themselves is like a law of nature… we know that not matter what happens we will always bear witness to it. President Biden has called for unity, yet he hid in his basement and said nothing as American cities burned from Black Lives Matter protests, riots, and looting, while condemning the riot at Capitol Hill (rightly so). He rails against leading by executive order and endorses bipartisan legislation as a candidate only to ram through a bailout for liberal states disguised as Covid relief without one Republican vote, and has signed more executive actions in his first two weeks than the last three presidents combined. He claims to want to undo the Trump presidency, put it behind us, and move forward together, but is silently condoning an unconstitutional impeachment trial and the denigration of 75 million Americans by his allies on the left. With their hypocrisy and arrogance, the mantra of the modern American left should be, “Do as I say, not as I do…”
